I can fully understand the level of attachment one would have with an online username. I've been using TideSwayer for years now as my default online label. All of my online friends (from various games), while they know my real name is Steve, all call me Tide. Usernames can certainly become like a second name to people. For many online acquaintances the username is how people get to know you so that is what they're most familiar with. When I used to mess around and change my usernames from time to time, people would still call me Tide in voicechat and regular chat, so I just said screw it and kept this one permanently.
